This morning, Dr Frans Alkemade will lecture on Bayesian statistics in the context of the Cold Case course. The first interim reports will be delivered to Leo Simais (The Hague Criminal Investigation Department) before Christmas. Exciting! Quite a few students are sick with the flu. It’ll be fine! To make the study of Law (subject ‘Criminal law, constitutional law, forensic sciences’) attractive for our gifted students, we teach the Cold Case course. Our students participate in cold case files of the The Hague criminal investigation department under the leadership of Leo Simais and Frans Alkemade.
Bayesian statistics is a tool to objectively weigh/qualify evidence. In this way, goal-oriented reasoning and the famous ‘prosecutor’s fallacy’ are avoided.
