Mandeville Academy organised an international symposium under the title ‘Reconciliation’ on 3 June 2022. Basim Razzo (keynote speaker) lost his family in Mosul (Iraq) in 2015 due to a bomb dropped by a Dutch F16. The pilot relied on erroneous information from US intelligence.
Basim chose the path of Reconciliation.
Basim’s story became known through the articles of Azmat Khan, an investigative journalist with the New York Times. It was partly because of this article that Azmat won the famous Pulitzer Prize in May 2022. Azmat also participated in the symposium as keynote speaker.
General Dick Berlijn was present on behalf of the Dutch Air Force. General Berlin actually needs no introduction. Not only was he commander of the Dutch Air Force, but also CDS.
The symposium was led by Prof. Dr. Laurie Mulvey (World in Conversation | Penn State University) and Prof. Dr. Sam Richards (Penn State University | NATO Extended Hand Program). Laurie Mulvey specialises in initiating dialogue in complex cases. Sam Richards is one of the most renowned professors in the United States in the field of inclusion.
